Janet and Jerry Weiner were founders of the Manuscripter's Guild in Houston. Janet's byline appeared in such publications as Redbooks, McCalls, and Family Circle. Jerry was a musician, photographer, and playwright. They started the Manuscripter's Guild with twenty friends. This bloomed into 150 person chapter. Janet and Jerry helped writers get published and meet agents. From this group, Greg Iles was published (New York Times bestseller of The Quiet Game, Mortal Fear and Black Cross). Also, Charlie Stella (Eddie's World, Jimmy Bench Press, and Mafiya) participated in the Manuscripter's Guild while writing his first novel.
Through a grant from Janet and Jerry's son, Alan Weiner, OOTG can offer two cash prizes in memory of two people who encouraged and inspired writers to get out of the gutter.
ALL REGULAR GUIDELINES APPLY. All stories submitted that fall between 1000 and 5500 words by a writer who is classifiable as an "up-and-comer" will be automatically entered in our short fiction contest. Two first, second and third place winners will be selected--one set for our "APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTE READ DEPT." and one set for our "15-20 MINUTE READ DEPT."
